Numismatic Museum
The Numismatic Museum of the National Bank originated as a numismatic exhibition established in 1998 to mark the 5th anniversary of the introduction of the national currency. The display generated immense interest among visitors, particularly students and foreign guests.
Within a short period, the exhibition’s collection grew significantly through acquisitions of banknotes, coins, and other valuables donated by foreign representatives and private individuals. Consequently, in late 1998, the exhibition was officially transformed into the Numismatic Museum of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The primary objective of the museum is to collect, preserve, exhibit, catalog, and promote the numismatic heritage of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as to gather documents and archival materials detailing the history, establishment, and evolution of the national currency.
In its operations, the Numismatic Museum is guided not only by the principles of collecting and preserving ancient relics and historical records regarding the issuance of the Kyrgyz som, but also by the promotion of their scientific and cultural significance. As the nation’s central bank, the institution is responsible for public outreach regarding the history of monetary circulation in the country.
Currently, the Numismatic Museum features the following exhibitions:
· Unique ancient coins discovered within the territory of Kyrgyzstan, including artifacts from the Silk Road era;
· Commemorative collection coins issued by the National Bank since 1995;
· The history and evolution of the national currency of the Kyrgyz Republic, showcasing the complete lifecycle of banknotes and coins from production to destruction;
· Materials from the “Som: The Face of Kyrgyzstan” public information and educational campaign;
· Gold bullion bars issued by the National Bank;
· Various souvenir products produced by the National Bank;
· Specimen banknotes and coins issued by central banks of foreign states.
The doors of the Numismatic Museum are open to anyone with an interest in the history of their nation, the evolution of money, and modern banknotes and coins.

Monday – Friday: from 9.00 to 17.00 (lunch break: 12.00 to 13.00)
