NBKR: The situation on the currency market stabilizes
On March 3-4, 2014 there were significant fluctuations of the US dollar on the foreign exchange market of Kyrgyzstan, primarily caused by speculations. Exchange offices taking the opportunity of the situation of uncertainty and nervousness associated with developments in the political and economic life of the states - main partners set out unfounded exchange rates for dollars and euros on the secondary market. Artificially created stir triggered increasing of demand for foreign currency.
To resolve the situation the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic using the whole range of monetary policy instruments has taken the necessary steps, also strengthened the monitoring of commercial banks and foreign exchange offices actions and applied appropriate sanctions against violators.
As a result of measures timely taken by the National Bank to prevent speculations the foreign exchange market stabilizes. In consideration of the lack of economic prerequisites for a sharp change in the exchange rate the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic in order to avoid possible losses calls on people not to take decisions relating to foreign exchange transactions, guided panic moods and emotions.
